Rainiers Bang Out 9-4 Win Versus Omaha
The Tacoma Rainiers got their 1997 Hugg Baseball League season off to a good start, defeating the Omaha Storm Chasers, 9-4. Mario Valdez was 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. For his pace-setting performance, he was named player of the game.

Valdez contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Tacoma in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 3-1, Valdez took a fastball from Allen McDill and stroked the home run to right. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Rainiers to leap in front, 4-3.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Valdez said after the game.
