Victory Pushes Marlins Record to 13-8
|
The Florida Marlins topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-2, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium. The player of the game was Florida pitcher Roger Clemens. Clemens went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 3-0. The win brings the Marlins to 13-8, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Florida used the bat of Richie Sexson to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Marlins ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Clemens.
