Multi-HR Game for Cruz in 7-3 Win
|
The New Orleans Brass defeated the San Antonio Missions, 7-3, in Pacific action at Texans Stadium, with New Orleans right fielder Jose L Cruz named player of the game. Brian Holman got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 8.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The Brass, now 5-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
With New Orleans leading 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Cruz came up to bat against San Antonio pitcher Steve Olin. Cruz hit a changeup to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Brass on top, 7-3.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Cruz told the New Orleans Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
