Sky Fox Lose, 2-1, at Bay Hawks Ballpark
|
In a low-scoring clash between New Orleans and Colorado Springs, pitcher Brian Barnes was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned player of the game honors for New Orleans in the 2-1 win. Barnes, now 1-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Mark Brandenburg finished the game for New Orleans and earned his 4th save.
The Sky Fox had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Brass going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old third baseman Jeff Branson came to the plate. Branson hit a run-scoring single on a 1-1 slider from Colorado Springs hurler Jeff Tabaka. It was Branson's 15th hit of the year.
Barnes said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The Brass keep rolling, raising their record to 7-4.
