Chukars Turn Back Omaha, 7-5
|
The Idaho Falls Chukars had to overcome a big game from Omaha third baseman Hensley Meulens to leave Alleycats Ballpark with a 7-5 victory. Meulens went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Idaho Falls starter Eric Nolte was credited with the win after throwing 104 pitches over 6.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Ralph Citarella closed it out for his 3rd save.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fourth, with the game tied, Takahiro Suzuki was at the plate when Idaho Falls scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Chukars to go in front, 4-3.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Suzuki.
Idaho Falls, now 7-4, has played well in the early going.
