Salt Lake City Buzz starter Steve Parris was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the San Antonio Missions, 7-1. Parris got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 8 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. Parris allowed 1 earned run. The Missions fall to 4-9 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.

Dave Staton put Salt Lake City in front, 2-0, when he took Jason Jacome downtown. His solo home run came with no one out in the top of the fourth. It was his 5th home run of the season.
