Boston Decked by Lankford, Royals
|
The Kansas City Royals defeated the Boston Red Sox, 10-2, in Federal League action at Fenway Park. Ray Lankford received player of the game honors. The 8-year veteran hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Bobby J. Jones picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-1. He struck out 5 in 7.2 innings. The Red Sox fall to 7-13 and continue their lackluster start in 1997.
Lankford put Kansas City up, 9-1, when he hit a 3-run home run off Doug Bochtler in the top of the sixth. His 6th home run of the season helped the Royals capture the win.
"We played hard and won," said Lankford. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
