Howard Battle was instrumental in his team's 8-2 triumph over the San Antonio Missions. The shortstop went 2-4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the New Orleans Brass. New Orleans reliever Brent Knackert picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Kevin Gross was saddled with the loss. The Brass, now 13-5, have been on fire in the early going.

One of the biggest contributors for New Orleans was second baseman Jason Bates. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, Bates got a 0-1 fastball and reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run. That put the Brass on top, 3-2.

"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager .
