Smoltz Sensational for Sun Rays
|
The Orlando Sun Rays got a stellar performance from pitcher John Smoltz, who handcuffed the St. Louis offense en route to a 2-0 win at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Rod Beck picked up the save, his 1st. The Sun Rays have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 7th win in 20 games.
Smoltz made it look effortless. He scattered 2 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 12 strikeouts. The Orlando right-hander encountered little resistance from the St. Louis hitters. His season record is now 1-2.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Smoltz told the Orlando Daily News.
