Late Rally by Yankees Secures Win
Minnesota got a terrific performance from pitcher Pedro Astacio, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Yankees. New York won the Yankee Stadium contest, 3-2. Astacio was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball. The Twins fall to 7-15 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.

New York won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With no outs and Pedro Astacio on the mound for Minnesota, designated hitter Phil B. Clark hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Yankees fans to their feet.

"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Clark said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
