The New Orleans Brass got a strong performance from pitcher Paul Wagner, who stymied the Tacoma offense en route to a 3-1 win at Premont Grounds. New Orleans reliever Luis Aquino was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Eddie Guardado. The Rainiers fall to 10-14 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.

Dante Powell made it 3-1 in favor of New Orleans when he delivered a 2-run single. It came with one out in the top of the ninth. The Brass went on to win.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Powell.
