Senators Stymie Oakland, Take 2-1 Win
The Washington Senators did just enough to sneak past the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, at RFK Stadium. Washington pitcher Andy Pettitte earned player of the game honors. Pettitte picked up the win for Washington, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. The Athletics, at 4-18, have stumbled out of the gate.

The Senators got a big at-bat from catcher Mickey Tettleton. For the game, Tettleton went 1 for 3 with a home run. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Washington a 2-1 lead.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Tettleton.
