Extra-Inning Win by River Rats over Buzz
|
Spokane right-hander Matt Morris pitched his team to a shutout win, 1-0, over the Salt Lake City Buzz. Spokane reliever Matt Whisenant picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Hideki Irabu took the loss. Spokane is third in the Pacific West with a record of 18-13.
Coming to the plate with no one out in the bottom of the tenth inning, Spokane third baseman Jose Lind had a chance to be the hero. Facing Salt Lake City pitcher Hideki Irabu with the bases loaded, Lind, who is tied for 4th in the PAC in triples with 2, hit a walk-off run-scoring single.
Morris pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
