Diamondbacks Solve Blue Jays, 4-3
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3, in United League action at Bank One Ballpark, with Arizona pitcher Floyd Youmans named player of the game. Danny Patterson sewed up the save, his 6th. The defending champion Diamondbacks have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 11-11 with the win.
Tony Gwynn went 1-3 for Arizona. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Hipolito Pichardo. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"Floyd was Floyd," said Diamondbacks manager Alen Maglajac. "We know what we'll get whenever he takes the mound."
