Giants Score Late, Stun Blue Jays, 3-2
|
San Francisco overcame a superlative game from John Smiley to beat Toronto, 3-2. The Toronto pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. San Francisco reliever Rusty Meacham was the winner. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Antonio Osuna. San Francisco, at 18-3, has sizzled in the early going.
San Francisco took a 3-2 lead on Jay Bell's 5th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Bell hit in the bottom of the ninth, left Toronto pitcher Antonio Osuna shaking his head.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Toronto skipper Jose Mata.
