On the mound for Colorado Springs was right-hander Clint Zavaras, who played a pivotal role in the win. Zavaras picked up the win for Colorado Springs, going 8.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 9 hits. The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Andujar Cedeno came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Spokane pitcher Rick Helling, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Colorado Springs on top, 2-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Colorado Springs manager .
