Charlotte catcher Todd Zeile had a good game, even if his team did not. The Knights dropped a 7-6 decision to Cincinnati at Riverfront Stadium. Zeile went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Mike Mussina got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 7 innings, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. Doug Henry was credited with the save for Cincinnati, his 3rd of the season.

Matt Lawton was a prime contributor to the Cincinnati win. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times. In the bottom of the third with one out, the 25-year old right fielder hit a solo home run. It made the score 7-5, in favor of the Reds.

"We'll take this win and move on," said Lawton.

The Knights fall to 11-12 and continue their wobbly start to the 1997 season.
