Brass Score Late, Upend River Rats, 11-8
|
Benefiting from Charlie Hayes's productive game, the New Orleans Brass downed the Spokane River Rats, 11-8. Hayes went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Brass. The winner was Jimmy Jones in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Jose M Martinez took the loss. New Orleans is now riding a 6-game win streak.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Jeff Branson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Spokane pitcher Jose M Martinez, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting New Orleans on top, 8-6.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Hayes told the New Orleans Herald.
