Brass Use Late-Game Magic to Beat River Rats
|
The New Orleans Brass handed the Spokane River Rats a loss at Bay Hawks Ballpark. The final score was 7-6. Charlie Hayes was named player of the game for New Orleans. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 4. He also added 1 walk. The win was Brent Knackert's in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Mike Magnante took the loss for Spokane. New Orleans has an impressive 36-14 record.
Hayes had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the ninth. On a 0-1 fastball from Mike Magnante, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Brass a 7-6 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Hayes.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Hayes told the New Orleans Herald. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
