6-4 Cubs Win over Royals Evens Season Record
|
Chicago played host to Kansas City at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
The Chicago Cubs topped the Kansas City Royals by the score of 6-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to second baseman Geronimo Pena. Pena was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Cubs on the day. Eric King got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Doug Jones earned the save, his 3rd.
Mark Grace, who finished 3rd in the FL in doubles with 41 in 1989, chipped in for Chicago with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Grace said.
The defending champion Cubs have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 11-11 with the win.
