Close Win Moves Rainiers to 25-34
|
The Tacoma Rainiers did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the New Orleans Brass at Premont Grounds. Nobody did more than left fielder Chito Martinez, who captured player of the game honors. Tacoma reliever Carlos Reyes picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Mike Dunne was saddled with the loss. The last-place Rainiers now have a win-loss record of 25-34.
Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Tacoma. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Martinez, who leads the PAC in bases on balls with 41, had a clutch at-bat. That's when he hit a run-scoring single to give the Rainiers a 5-4 lead.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Martinez.
