Warriors Continue Skid Thanks to Meulens, Storm Chasers
|
The Omaha Storm Chasers beat the Walla Walla Warriors, 11-6, at Maples Stadium. Omaha second baseman Hensley Meulens earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Stan Belinda in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Curt Leskanic took the loss. Omaha improves to 45-17 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Phil B. Clark came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Walla Walla pitcher Curt Leskanic, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Omaha on top, 7-6.
Clark said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
