Salt Lake City Buzz starter Hideki Irabu pitched effectively against the Spokane River Rats at Bella Vista Grounds. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 6-3 win. The third-place Buzz have won 4 straight games.
With runs few and far between, the Buzz had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Salt Lake City came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when first baseman Dave Staton delivered a 2-run double. The double was hit off Jaret Wright and made the score 4-3, Buzz. Staton went 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
