The Stag grabbed a win, 4-3, at Ballpark of Milton, overcoming a fine effort from Walla Walla pitcher Ugueth Urbina. Urbina went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Reliever J J Thobe picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Curt Leskanic took the loss. Chuck Ricci closed the game out for Portland, earning his 16th save.

Portland used the timely hitting of Bill Pecota to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Stag on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager . "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."

The Stag have an impressive 44-24 record.
