Bell Lifts Cardinals to 9-6 Triumph
|
With third baseman Jay Bell leading the charge, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Minnesota Twins, 9-6, at Metrodome. Bell, who is tied for 4th in the FL in triples with 2, was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. St. Louis reliever Rene Arocha was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Kevin Ritz. The Twins fall to 8-16 and continue their wobbly start to the 1997 season.
Karim Garcia was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI against the Twins. In the top of the first inning, he hit a 2-run double, putting St. Louis in front, 2-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Garcia said.
