Stag Score Late, Top Sounds, 5-4
|
Nashville got a terrific performance from catcher Raul Casanova, but it wasn't enough to beat the Portland Stag. Portland won the Tuttle Fields contest, 5-4. Casanova was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was Will Cunnane's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jose RF Santiago took the loss for Nashville. The third-place Sounds have dropped 7 straight games.
Tied up with the Sounds in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Stag got a boost from catcher Chris Widger. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Widger saw a 1-0 splitter from Jose RF Santiago and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Portland on top, 5-4.
"I was a little disappointed," said Nashville manager . "We could've and should've scored more runs."
