Padres Turn Back Oakland, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the San Diego Padres and the Oakland Athletics, pitcher Mark Langston was masterful on the mound. The San Diego left-hander was named the player of the game in San Diego's 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Langston, now 2-1. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Gregg Olson got the save, the 7th for him this season.
Mike Kingery had a go-ahead home run for San Diego in the bottom of the first inning. With no one out and a runner on 1st, the 34-year old right fielder hit a 2-run home run off Kurt Kepshire. His 2nd home run of the season made the score 2-0.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Kingery. "But I like how we're playing right now."
The Athletics fall to 8-16 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1995 season.
