The Minnesota Twins got a strong performance from pitcher Darren Oliver, who stymied the St. Louis offense en route to a 3-2 win at Metrodome. The Cardinals fall to 11-14 and continue their lackluster start in 1997.
Minnesota took a 3-2 lead on Darin Erstad's 38th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Erstad hit in the bottom of the seventh, left St. Louis pitcher Terry Mathews shaking his head.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach said.
