Expos Turn Back Orioles, 6-4
|
The Montreal Expos defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 6-4, in United League action at Olympic Stadium, with Montreal pitcher Pat Hentgen named player of the game. Hentgen went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 5, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-1. Ken Howell, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save.
The Expos got a big at-bat from right fielder Raul Mondesi. For the game, Mondesi was 1 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Montreal a 5-3 lead.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Mondesi told the Montreal Observer. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
The Expos, now 18-7, have been on a roll in the early going.
