Blue Jays Need Extras to Top Tigers
|
The Toronto Blue Jays topped the Detroit Tigers, 5-3, in United League action at Tiger Stadium. The player of the game was Toronto pitcher and Newton, Massachusetts native Jim Corsi. The Tigers fall to 9-15 and continue their uneven start to the 1995 season.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. came to bat in the top of the 16th. Facing Detroit pitcher Candy Sierra, he hit a first pitch curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Toronto on top, 5-3.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Corsi.
