River Rats Get Win, Extend Streak to 6
|
The Salt Lake City Buzz got a superb performance from shortstop Eddie Pye. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Spokane. The River Rats won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Pye was named the player of the game. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner was Spokane reliever Marc Valdes, now 5-1. The loser was Steve Parris. Curt Schmidt earned his 2nd save in 2 chances.
Spokane used the timely hitting of Shannon Penn to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the River Rats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll savor this win," Penn told the Spokane Observer, "then get ready for the next game."
The River Rats, now 49-52, have won 6 in a row.
