Galarraga Leads Athletics to Win over Pilots
|
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Andres Galarraga, the Oakland Athletics defeated the Seattle Pilots, 6-4. Galarraga went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Athletics. Todd Stottlemyre earned the win for Oakland. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 8-14. Doug Brocail, credited with the save, is now 7 for 8 in save opportunities.
The most important at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Mike Trombley threw a 1-1 curveball to Galarraga, which he hit to left-center for a 3-run home run. It put Oakland in front, 6-4.
"It feels good to get this one," Galarraga told the Oakland Today.
Oakland is now 51-86, while Seattle is 72-63.
