Cubs Nip Rangers, 2-1
|
Chicago Cubs starter Randy Tomlin turned in an exceptional performance against the Texas Rangers at Wrigley Field, resulting in a Chicago win, 2-1. Tomlin got the win, improving to 16-8. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Tomlin allowed 1 earned run. The Cubs have an impressive 83-53 record.
The Cubs beat the Rangers with some clutch hitting. The home run by Jeff Cirillo in the bottom of the second is a good example. With two down, Cirillo gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he came through with the big hit.
"We'll savor this win," Cirillo told the Chicago Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."
