The Florida Marlins topped the Boston Red Sox by the score of 7-2, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Rondell White. White went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Marlins. The Red Sox fall to 8-17 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.
Charles Johnson, who won the Rookie of the Year in 1994, aided the Florida cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the catcher went 1-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Johnson. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
