Padres Walk It Off for 62nd Win of Season
|
The San Diego Padres eked out a 4-3 win versus the Los Angeles Dodgers at Jack Murphy Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Mark Langston, who captured player of the game honors. San Diego reliever Norm Charlton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Lance Painter was saddled with the loss. San Diego, at 62-74, sits in 4th place in the United League West Division.
The San Diego win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Manny Ramirez. In the bottom of the 11th, the San Diego designated hitter came to bat and hit a walk-off solo home run. It staked his team to a 4-3 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds. "It's usually not just one thing."
