Sun Rays Beat Visiting Reds, 5-3
|
Matt Stairs did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Cincinnati Reds from losing, 5-3, to the Orlando Sun Rays at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Stairs was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Orlando starter Hipolito Pichardo was credited with the win after throwing 120 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 7-9. Steve Shirley, credited with the save, is now 8 for 13 in save opportunities.
The Sun Rays got a big at-bat from first baseman Jeff Bagwell. For the game, Bagwell went 3-4 with a triple, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 4th triple of the season gave Orlando a 1-0 lead.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Bagwell said.
The Sun Rays, at 64-72, sit in third place in the Federal League East Division.
