Chicago overcame a superlative game from Jimmy Key to beat Texas, 6-5. The Texas pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Chicago reliever Doug Jones picked up the win, upping his record to 1-4. David Wells absorbed the loss. Chicago is in third place in the Federal League Central Division with a record of 78-59.

Chicago took a 6-5 lead on Chris Brown's 12th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Texas pitcher David Wells in the bottom of the ninth.
