Senators Win in Extras
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Washington Senators got the win.
New York got a terrific performance from pitcher Tom Glavine, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Senators. Washington won the RFK Stadium contest, 3-2. Glavine was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of shutout ball. The Senators bumped their record to 80-57 with this latest triumph.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Willie Greene came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing New York pitcher Jim Bullinger, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 3-2.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
