Blue Jays Throttle Tigers, 5-1
|
Toronto pitcher Melido Perez did his part in helping his team beat the Detroit Tigers, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Toronto is now 73-64.
Will Clark had a big 2-run double for the Blue Jays in the top of the fifth inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Dave Fleming and stroked the double to left. It was his 31st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Toronto manager Jose Mata. "It's usually not just one thing."
