Yankees Lose, 12-5, at Fenway Park
|
Boston shortstop Bret Barberie was a significant contributor in his team's 12-5 triumph over the New York Yankees. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for Boston. Roger Salkeld, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 7-13. The last-place Red Sox are now 48-91, the Yankees 53-85.
The Red Sox got an important contribution from left fielder Barry Bonds, who in the bottom of the third stroked a full count fastball into right for a bases-clearing double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 3-2.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Boston manager Brett Williams.
