The Florida Marlins grabbed a 8-6 win over the Cleveland Spiders at League Park. Florida right fielder Butch Huskey was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 to earn player of the game honors. Reliever Billy Wagner picked up the win. His record improves to 6-6. Roberto Hernandez took the loss. Bryan Harvey notched his 40th save in 45 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Matt Williams came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Cleveland pitcher Roberto Hernandez, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Florida on top, 7-6.
