Thomas Slugs Twins to 8-5 Win
|
The Minnesota Twins topped the Chicago White Sox by the score of 8-5, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Frank Thomas. Thomas belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5 for the Twins. The winner was Minnesota reliever Scott Ruskin, now 1-0. The loser was LaMarr Hoyt. Trevor Hoffman converted his 7th save in 15 tries.
Thomas contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Minnesota in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 4-3, Thomas took a curveball from LaMarr Hoyt and stroked the home run to left. His 42nd home run of the season allowed the Twins to leap in front, 5-4.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Thomas.
Even with the win, the Twins have a dismal 47-91 record.
