Cardinals Jolt Twins with Late Rally
|
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a good performance by Minnesota center fielder Darin Erstad to knock off Minnesota, 4-3, at Metrodome. Erstad was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. With the win, the Cardinals have a record of 70-67.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of Gerald Young to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Minnesota skipper Darren Fischbach, "and it cost us."
