Orioles Beat Visiting Senators, 7-1
|
Washington had no answer for Baltimore Orioles starter Rod Nichols, who flummoxed Senators hitters as the Orioles cruised to a 7-1 victory. In 6 innings, Nichols surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Julian Tavarez earned his 6th save in 10 chances.
One of the biggest contributors for Baltimore was shortstop Pat Meares. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Meares got a first pitch fastball and hit a run-scoring single. That put the Orioles on top, 2-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Nichols said.
The 'W' lifts Baltimore's record to 55-84.
