Expos Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Marlins
|
The Florida Marlins got a sterling performance from pitcher Pat Rapp, but the Expos still prevailed, 3-2. Rapp was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Ken Howell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 34 of 39 save opportunities. Montreal leads the United League East Division by 6½ games.
Montreal took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 2-2, when Raul Mondesi hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Montreal in front, 3-2.
"We did enough to win," said Mondesi.
