Mets Continue Skid Thanks to Hrbek, Orioles
|
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Mets, 9-5, at Shea Stadium. Baltimore first baseman Kent Hrbek was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The win was credited to Darryl Scott in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Frank Castillo took the loss. The Mets, now 14-12, continue their sluggish start.
An important at-bat for Baltimore came with one out in the top of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Hrbek hit a run-scoring double, which contributed to the Orioles win.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Hrbek said.
