Palmer Slugs Blue Jays to 4-0 Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Mets, 4-0, in United League action at Shea Stadium. Dean Palmer received player of the game honors. The 9-year veteran hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Hipolito Pichardo earned the win for Toronto. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 3-2. Toronto has a mark of 13-12 after the win.
Toronto took a 4-0 lead on Palmer's 9th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Frank Castillo in the top of the sixth, propelled Toronto to the win.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said New York skipper Michael Kritikos, "and it cost us."
