Rainiers Throttle Buzz, 5-1

The Salt Lake City Buzz got a sterling performance from pitcher Jeff Russell, but the Rainiers still prevailed, 5-1. Russell was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He came in in relief and pitched to 16 batters . Bryan Hickerson earned the win for Tacoma. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 7-6. The Rainiers' win now puts them at 57-51.
Ron Coomer had a big 2-run double for the Rainiers in the bottom of the third inning. With Tacoma leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Mike Birkbeck and stroked the double to left-center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rainiers ahead, 4-1.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Coomer.
