Bates goes 3-for-4, Brass Move to 74-40
|
With third baseman Jason Bates leading the charge, the New Orleans Brass defeated the Spokane River Rats, 20-5, at Bay Hawks Ballpark. Bates, who is tied for 4th in the PAC in doubles with 28, was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Brian Barnes earned the win to go to 11-6. He allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. The Brass have an impressive 74-40 record.
The Brass got a big at-bat from left fielder Marvin Benard. For the game, Benard went 3 for 6 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 145th hit of the season gave New Orleans a 4-3 lead.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Benard told the New Orleans Herald. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
