Padres Raise Rally Flag, Beat Arizona, 3-1
|
San Diego starter Pete Schourek had a strong outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Jack Murphy Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. Norm Charlton, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The Diamondbacks fall to 13-14 and continue their uneasy start to the 1997 season.
Helping the San Diego cause was Jeff Conine. In the bottom of the eighth, the former first round draft pick had a run-scoring walk to make the score 2-1, Padres.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds.
