Yankees Drop Pirates with Late Score
The New York Yankees picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, knocking off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-2. Starting pitcher Jim Abbott was an essential part of his team's success. Andy Ashby was credited with the save for New York, his 5th of the season. With the win, New York elevates its record to 13-13.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Yankees sent 20-year-old shortstop Derek Jeter to the plate with the bases empty. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a solo home run, to put New York on top, 3-2.

"I like the roll we're on," said New York manager Patrick McQuail.
