Devil Rays Get Road Win, 6-3
|
The Orlando Devil Rays dealt the Cincinnati Reds a 6-3 loss at Riverfront Stadium. Brian Jordan was the star on offense. He was 4-5 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Joe Johnson got the win, improving to 5-0. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Xavier Hernandez was credited with the save for Orlando, his 2nd of the season.
Orlando relied on the hitting of Ron Gant to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Devil Rays on top, 2-0. For the game, Gant had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Jordan.
The Reds drop to 13-13 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1997 season.
