River Rats Turn Back New Orleans, 5-4

The Spokane River Rats had to overcome a big game from New Orleans designated hitter Dion James to leave Bay Hawks Ballpark with a 5-4 victory. James was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Reid Cornelius got credit for the win, improving to 11-7. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. Spokane is now 47-74. New Orleans is 64-57.
Spokane used the bat of Gene Kingsale to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the River Rats ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Kingsale said.
